Shortest Distance is a large stainless steel sculpture near the entrance to the courthouse. Referencing eddies and counter-eddies, the form arose from a consideration of the nature of progress in democratic institutions—a convoluted path. This project received a GSA Design Award for Excellence in Art and Architecture in 2008.
